“Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.” – John Dewey

How have I arrived here?  And what makes me such a good trainer?

My offerings today through Schreiber Training are a culmination of 12 plus years of facilitation experience, classroom teaching, and outdoor education.  I have successfully combined the hands-on component of Experiential Education with communication and group dynamics skills.  I am also certified to teach Edward deBono’s Six Thinking Hats method.

As a philosophy major in the early 1990’s, I learned how to investigate, how to make observations, and how to ask questions.  But my real passion was interacting with people.  After undergrad, I traveled throughout the country.  I served two terms with AmeriCorps, one with the Vermont Anti-Hunger Corps. The other with the American Red Cross as a Rapid Response Corps member in Los Angeles, CA.

I returned to Vermont and continued to volunteer for the Red Cross as a Disaster Action Team Leader, responding to local emergencies such as residential fires.  With these formative experiences, I witnessed stressful situations and the impact they have on effective communication.   Staying cool, calm, and collected was the key to success.

In 2002, I started All Aboard, Inc., my first training company, because I had witnessed participants experiencing life-changing events on the ropes course.  I, too, had been deeply affected by this outdoor jungle gym. The process of “doing” something/engaging our whole selves to get feedback about our behavior really worked.  I wanted to be able to bring these types of activities indoors so I could reach more people.  Click here for client list.

Over the years, I became a professor for the local college, teaching Interpersonal Communication and Small Group Dynamics. I also obtained my Master’s degree in Experiential Education.  Along the way, I created and facilitated various programs to meet clients’ needs, particularly for team building events.  I continue to facilitate such events for Outward Bound Professional.

I know I’m passionate about what I do but don’t take my word for it.  Click here for testimonials.
